Gabriella Nocita

PhD Student

I am a Ph.D. student in the School and Clinical Child Psychology (SCCP) program at OISE/U of T. My general research interests relate to factors that may hinder or promote young children’s social, emotional, and academic functioning. My doctoral research is focused on preschool aged children’s experiences in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) settings. Specifically, I am exploring these experiences through three research studies. First, I am conducting a meta-analysis to determine the impact that having an Early Childhood Education (ECE) degree has on preschool children’s later development. Next, I am exploring whether differential treatment of children in ECEC settings occurs, and if so the extent to which it occurs and the impact it has on teachers’ perceptions of young children. Finally, I am profiling preschool aged children based on the quality of the care they have experienced in order to explore the impact that varying levels of ECEC quality has on young children’s later socio-emotional and academic development.
